Child Grief Support

Children do not show the signs of grief in the same ways as adults. Hospice of Dayton offers individual counseling to help children with their grief and can provide emergency and group counseling for schools and organizations following a loss.

Pathways of Hope programs for children can help children...

  • Identify their thoughts, feelings, and actions associated with grief and give children the opportunity to share their personal grief experience
  • Become aware that other children have experienced the death of a loved one
  • Become aware that change is part of life and sometimes change results in loss
  • Have an opportunity to pay tribute to their loved one

Different children need different kinds of grief support. Individual, family and group counseling is available through Pathways of Hope.

In partnership with area schools, Pathways of Hope supports grieving children through school-based grief support groups. Pathways of Hope can meet the needs of concerned parents and caregivers by providing information, guidance and age-appropriate resources for support.

A special summer group counseling program for children ages 7—17 is also available. Camp Pathways is an overnight weekend camp experience held at Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio.
